Aleta Drummond, M.D., Psychiatry

I am a Board Certified Psychiatrist and Medical Acupuncturist with over twenty years experience in the field of psychiatry. I trained in a community mental health residency program and worked with the chronically mentally ill as a staff psychiatrist for Sonoma County Mental Health.

While working full time for the county and raising my two sons, I continued a Tai Chi practice that helped me immeasurably to maintain balance in a stressful work environment. Tai Chi is a moving meditation that promotes concentration, relaxation, postural changes and a sense of well being.

My interest in Tai Chi led to exploration and then training in acupuncture. I began offering treatments to patients while still working at a clinic for the County of Sonoma. I have advanced training in Five Element Acupuncture. This form of acupuncture treats the mind, body and spirit and spoke to my observation that many of the people I have treated over the years had fractured spirits that were not being addressed with psychotherapy or psychotropic medication.

I enjoy hiking, gardening, family time, cooking and traveling. The sitting meditation practice introduced to me in my twenties is still a part of my daily life. I am grateful that my husband of more than thirty years shares my passion for Tai Chi.
